Big Ten Conference Divisions

Whether you are fan of Michigan or Michigan State, or any other team in the Big Ten, we're sure you have an opinion about the expansion of the conference. Many were concerned that the big rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State would no longer be as we like it - the last game of the season, the second Sunday in November.

You can read the full article about the Big Ten Expansion here, but we would just like to help spread the word that the NCAA has protected the Michigan-Ohio State Rivalry. *Sigh of relief*. These two teams will play every single season in a protected crossover rivalry game, on the second Sunday in November, as we have since 1935.

The new Big Ten divisions won't be in effect until 2011, so no worries for this season, or the next. At least as far as the rivalry is concerned.

Spartans In The D

Detroit loves the Spartans! This year, for the first time since October 27, 1944, when Coach Charlie Bachman led the Spartans to a 32-0 victory over Wayne State, the Spartans will play football in Detroit.

Michigan State is excited to play at Ford Field, the home of the Detroit Lions, against the Florida Atlantic University on Saturday September 11, 2010. The Spartans took on FAU last in 2008, posting a 17-0 Victory.

The MSU football team includes 27 players from the Metro-Detroit Area who are very honored to play in their hometown in front of their family and friends. The players aren’t the only Spartans excited to be back in Detroit. During a Ford Field practice last month Coach Mark Dantonio said, “It’s a great venue, and just to have our fans from Michigan State be able to come, it’s kind of a home away from home for us, so we’re pretty excited. We want to try and recreate some of the atmosphere that was down here for the basketball championships.”

Downtown Detroit is no stranger to Spartan Play, hosting the NCAA Final Four in 2009 where MSU made it to the finals! Detroit was also home to the 2010 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four.

Tickets for the “Spartans In the D” Event start at $19 and can be purchased via Ticketmaster. Additionally, Spartan fans can participate in the official Tailgate Event in the GM Lot near Renaissance Center at 900 E. Atwater. Parking spaces will be available for $10.
